There’s nothing quite like a baby turning one. It’s a beautiful, bittersweet milestone — one full year of laughter, learning, growth, and love. To celebrate, we captured Rylee’s first birthday with a sweet and simple lifestyle photo session right at home in Missouri.

This cake smash session had everything: a curious and joyful one-year-old, a backyard full of chickens, and her furry best friend, Everest, right by her side.

We started with some relaxed portraits and snuggles before letting Rylee dig into her birthday cake — and let’s just say she understood the assignment. Frosting-covered fingers, wide-eyed smiles, and a little mess made it all picture-perfect.

The chickens roamed freely, adding charm, chaos, and a whole lot of fun. They’re part of the everyday magic of her childhood, and that’s what I love most — capturing not just milestones, but memories.

Everest was the calm in the storm (and the clean-up crew, let’s be honest), showing up for the snuggles and sticking close to his tiny human.
